Here is an excellent video: http://www.instructables.com/id/Waist-High-Planter-Box/
I've got a fun example you may like I made it with left over 2 x 4's. This project was really neat and easy to build. I added another link to a small planter I made with fence boards. That was fun too and they turn into neat hanging planters.

My son built mine out of scrap lumber. This area was next to the foundation between the front sidewalk. It was always ugly because the foundation cement overran and I could only dig down about 2"...so nothing survived.
Son took 8" wide " board, cut 2 pieces about 24" long ad 2 about 14" long. He cut 4 of the 2x2's 11" long and sawed them with points for stakes and screwed the 4 boards onto the stakes.
The first photo is of the way the stakes are inside the box.
The second photo shows the Caladium beginning to come up this year.
The last photo shows the Caladium in full bloom last year!
Caladium are my FAVORITE. Beautiful color and no work once they are in the ground. I order 100 of the mixed color and size package each year from Florida Calidium Boys...they make their own bouquets!!!
