id do it with a paint sprayer or spray cans. you need to get all the cane covered in paint. not just the top.
I’ve cleaned my wicker chairs with a soft brush and soapy water, rinsed with a hose and allowed them to dry thoroughly. I’ve had very good luck with Krylon spray paint, applying many thin coats. Each chair used about two cans of paint, but the numerous thin coats provided excellent coverage and protection for my chairs which stay outside during Spring, Summer, and Fall even in the rainy Pacific Northwest.
