What can I do, to plastic tile around stove area,we rent and it's ok with landlord to change this. I think having plastic tile, by stove can melt. Some of it, is cracked, and missing. And people before us, just plastered missing tile areas. Should we remove all of it. And paint, or put metal panels over tile. ? The whole kitchen has these tiles. We are only going to change stove area.
Thanks
Sandra

Remove the tiles, clean the area ,apply peel and stick tiles or paint it

I don't think paint would work very well in that area. It could be tough to keep clean with grease splatters. The metal tiles are an option, but could get hot by the stove. Have you thought about contact paper? It's easy to clean, easy to install, easy to remove and has so many options with design and color. You'd have to make sure that the area is fairly level, no missing tiles, and that it's very clean and free of grease.

I would strip the walls of these plastic panel, cleaning it of debris and making as flat as possible. These are photos of peel and stick tile, which would seem to be ideal for your situation. They’re great looking and easy to do, and reasonable for a small space.

While some of the small-panel tiles are really handsome, they still have grout, which loves grease and dirt. I’d go for larger tiles with smaller grout lines.

    Im lazy.

Thank you both for ideas, larger tiles is a good option, and to other reply, contact paper is something, I would have never thought of. I do think, removing old tiles is a must. And anything we do, we will run it by our landlady first, for ok. She knows we take good care, of Apartment. And help with maintenance.

One thing that is very pretty is the decorative ceiling tiles.

Faux brick tiles are pretty too.

Whatever you do, get permission in writing. Why? Because when you take off that plastic, it will probably damage the wallboard. In fact, correspond with her via email explain what you want to do, that it may scar the wallboard, but you will put up "ABC" to cover any flaws.

Once you decide what to do, correspond with her again with your decision and ask if that is alright. if she does not email, send her a note via mail.

"As per our discussions, we are going to "________________" starting next weekend. Let me know if you have any problem with this.

Yes we would run it by landlady, she lives below us, and we would talk to her in person. And get cost estimate ect in writing. and the ceiling tiles( metal sheet ) though , I don't know about cleaning. My be a plain design, is a nice option also,

Regarding Shore grandmom's suggestion to put contact paper over the tiles,-

I would dissuade you against doing this, as I feel this would be an unsafe move. The stove is gas, which has open flames in each burner. As far as I know, contact paper is not an inflammable material. Also, due to the heat of the stove and oven, the backing on the contact paper will soon begin to dry out, causing it to lift away, and peel off. A serious fire could easily start if any bits of this paper were to fall off into the flame.

Thank you, I didn't think contact paper around stove was a good idea, it would be similar to the plastic tile, that is already by stove, which I feel it not good by stove for same reasons. Maybe those metal dealing panels would work. What ever We do, the plastic tile is going to be removed 1st. Around stove
