How can I build free standing shelves with books and glass?

I have a set of encyclopedias that I’d like to repurpose into shelves. I don’t want to just stack them with glass between them but by standing the books upright. How can I stop the individual books from opening. In other words, glue them shut.
Please suggest away, any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

Actually, most of the stacked book-shelves have instructions to glue the pages shut, too. And it’s just as simple as you might think. For a set of encyclopedias, pour a quart of white school glue into a big bowl or an empty 3# coffee can. Add 32 oz. of water and stir until the mix is smooth. For each volume, place a strip of glue around all four sides of the inside front cover. Do the same around the inside back cover. Do the same around the pages about ever 100 pages. Work quickly, then glue the outside edges of the volume, using a heavy coat. You can also put a coat on the outside edge where the volume number is. This is the less expensive way to use ModPodge, which is store-bought thinned glue and water. Let all the books dry/cure about three days and they won’t come open and can be used just like a board their size. Best wishes ☺️
1. Divide them up. Stick them together - putting Plate glass between layers.
2. Use above for base and fist shelf - Stick 2/3 books together for each end
stuck to glass and proceed up - Glass on top or row of books.
