Use warm water and a Wallpaper scraper to get it off.

This is a job, so be prepared. Start with a paint tray , and fill it 3/4 of the pan with very warm water. Use a broom stick handle, and attach it to a regular size roller. Next, roll, the roller in the water, and let excess drip off. Now run the roller from the bottom up. This should loosen the paper. Do this for all the walls. Scrape the paper off with a large putty knife. When the walls are done, wash the paste off the walls with a large sponge. Let it completely dry, before you paint, Good Luck!

You have removed only the top layer probably. Go to a place where there is a seam, dampen an area and scratch it with your fingernail...lightly. If a layer comes off and you can see wall board behind it, you have to get off the part that is still stuck to the wall...the backing of the wallpaper. Do not over wet this backing.

Spray on water, then "score" with a tool you can get at Home Depot, Lowe's or maybe even Walmart, then peel off. Let water soak in to loosen the glue.

It sounds like you either have residual paste or thin backing attached. Remember your chemistry, wallpaper paste is a base if you want to remove it all use a weak acid to break the bond. It's as simple as washing your walls in a solution of white vinegar and water. Works for me every time.

I used water mixed with laundry softener from the dollar store. I put it in a spray bottle and sprayed a section at a time. Let it soak in and it peeled the wallpaper off easily. Any glue/fuzz residue left behind and I would respray let sit a few minutes and go over until clean. I could not believe how easy removing wallpaper was with this method and glad I tried it before buying a steamer. Seriously blew my mind.

  • We've done this and it's a lot of work, but doable. Spray scrap and repeat. If you can rent a steamer or own one it really, really helps. The chemicals and water sprays work, but sometimes you have to overwet the walls and it causes damage when you scrape.

Wallpaper scraper and warm water with a cloth should do it!
