How to get rid of small flies?

These bugs only appear during the day. Sit on wet spots and want to sit on food. Never get any bigger than a very small fly and are very fast. Only see them in warm weather and almost never see them in winter .

Fruitflies! They come in on fresh fruits and potted plants. If there are several, I spray around any potted plants, and put fruit in plastic containers in the fridge. Without food sources and places to leave their eggs, they will die in a day. Every time it gets hot, or you bring in peaches or bananas or new plants, expect some black or white insects. ☺️

Please don’t go nuts, unless that is your comfort zone. New approach: put every bit of food away. Put bread in the refrigerator and everything else that doesn’t have a sealed plastic container. Put items in zip loc bags before they go into containers like cookie jars. Set all plants outside. Put toothpaste and brushes in a zip loc. When everybody goes to bed, put a stopper over every drain in the house: sinks, tubs. Close the toilets and cover the whole toilet with a big towel. Cover shower drains with a towel. Then go around the house with something like Black Flag Fly and Mosquito Spray. Do all this 2-3 nights in a row and see if that solves the problem. If not use a sticky fly strip so you can catch enough for an exterminator to identify, and get the house fumigated. I really hope this helps. I’m still thinking. ☺️

It sounds like your produce is attracting fruit flies or gnats. To get rid of them you have to be ahead of them and not put out anything that will draw them. The eggs are probably already there from the store. The just hatch and hover when the conditions are right, feeding off the skin of the fruit. Wash tour fruit if possible & refrigerate.

These are fruit flies. To get rid of them, sit out several small glasses of old wine. Fill about 1/3 full, in each glass. Put plastic wrap over the glasses, secure with an elastic band. Spread them out on the counter. Poke several holes in the plastic, not too big. When the fruit flies smell the wine, they go into the plastic, and drown.

I've used apple cider in a small container with saranwrap tightly secured over the top. I prick holes in the saranwrap so they can enter. They get trapped and die after grazing on the apple cider and in a few days you'll notice there are no more fruit-flies. I've found this method the best way to get rid of them. You'll see it's working when you see dead fruit-flies In the container.
