Clean the dent to be pulled with a household spray cleaner. Spray on the cleaner, then wipe it off with a clean rag. Allow the dent to dry.

Apply the adhesive to the center of the dent. Depending upon which dent puller you have, a specially formulated adhesive will be recommended for use or included in the package. It may be a super-type glue or it may be a glue that is dispensed from a hot glue gun.

Place the small adhesive dent pulling cup onto the adhesive in the dent. Allow the adhesive to harden so that the cup will stay in place.

Attach the pulling mechanism to the dent pulling cup. There are several kinds from slide hammers which clip on to screw-on types that a threaded shaft will screw into a threaded hole in the cup.

Pull the cup outwards. A slide hammer type of puller will require several pulls of the hammer to pull out the dent. A screw-type of puller will slowly pull the dent out and may literally give off an audible "pop" when the dent has been straightened.

Remove the adhesive cup with either a specially formulated adhesive remover or in some types, if the cup does not pop off, bend it from side to side until the adhesive releases.
