I've had great results with powdered cayenne pepper and human hair trimmings seeem to be doing fine but they really haven't been put to the test yet this year.

Hi Russell, You could spread out some shredded Irish Spring bar soap in your garden. You can shred the bars on a box grater or even in a food processor. This is the only method that I have found to keep animals out of my garden and I live next to woods and a river. I hope you find this info helpful. Best of luck to you.

We had success with a fishing line fence. Deer munched on all my Hosta right up to fence but not inches beyond. A bit of effort to make. Ours were placed to prevent access to our backyard vegetables by blocking a fairly narrow side yard and using natural borders such as shrubs. We made them removable so they can be taken down for lawn mower access, etc. A little involved but really worked. Google "Fishing line deer fence".

  • Use a vegetable peeler on the bar of Irish Spring soap and scatter shavings around plants and bushes. There's a product called Bobbex that works really well if you have something you want to protect though!

I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating - works on rabbits too!
