What's some ideas to help water drain away from a concrete porch?

I have a section of concrete porch that is uncovered and water tends to pool up when it rains. I'm looking for some ideas to divert the water away from the house toward the grass. I was also considering large potted plants to divide the two sections of concrete so that the water doesn't travel toward the older concrete section which is where the front door is. Another layer of 'crete needs to be added to slope it away from the house. Or you can score the concrete from the house to the yard so the water runs in the shallow gutter marks to the yard. That would be a big job, though.

There is a very slight slope towards the end but I don’t think it’s enough and they are saying it is. Plus the drain now hits the concrete so that’s a concern to me

Have you thought about a French drain? They are inexpensive and helped us drain our yard in the rainy South USA.

If the water pools on the new concrete... it was not pitched properly when it was poured or finished.... the water should run away from the house (in all directions... and away from the older concrete patio.. You may home only 2 options.... break up the new section and re-pour it... with proper pitch for drainage.... or put a roof/cover over it...with gutters to keep the water away from it.

The potted plants will not keep the water from running onto the old section of concrete... only a curb would... and that would defeat the purpose of adding to that area.

Maybe consider putting up some sort of awning over the open space.

If the problem is the water coming from the end of the downspout, you can get a downspout extension to divert it toward the lawn.

It is too bad they didn't angle it away from the old concrete and wall when they poured it. For an easy fix you might build up a small hump on the line where the new concrete meets the old with some Quickcrete. You might also use the Quickcrete to lay a small lift where the wall meets the new concrete and angle that out toward the edge of the new concrete.

Add a gutter extender to the drain spout. You can get them at any big box store. They come in plastic and metal to match the drain spout. Ask at the "pro desk" and they will be happy to help you with what you need to secure the extension. The extension should reach from the spout to the end of the concrete. Good luck.

Thanks. Looks like i'm going to have to cut the end of the spout off to add an extension as the bottom of it right now is sitting on top of the concrete
