What is happening to my weeping willow tree?

My tree is 6-7 years old and has been a beautiful addition to our yard. This summer it is loosing leaves and looks very unhealthy. Nothing has disturbed the roots nor has there been any chemical on or around it that I am aware of unless it is something simply in the "country" environment. What could be wrong with it?

They take tons of water.
Check it for parasites. Ours got an aphid infestation a couple of years ago. You can usually tell if it is them because you will also see ants guarding them. I used a hot pepper oil on every infested area I could find/reach...just applied it to the suckers with a q-tip. I guess you could also spray it on but, I'm not sure what effect the oil would have on the foliage. Also look closely at the trunk and root area for any signs of wood-boring insect holes. Good Luck!
Weeping Willows like living on the edge of water due to their need for lots of water. I would start here especially if you don't have much rain this time of year. If this is the problem, you may want to find another place for the tree and plant a tree that will like the living conditions.
Try a product called Save-A-Tree. I use it every year. I've seen it work well with willows. I get it at my favorite nursery. As others have said, willows take lots of water.
