we put a new ceiling fan in the living room. I now want to add some sort of feature to the ceiling around the base of the base to add a little pop of distinction.,,,, what do you have in mind?

I saw a blog idea where they took a round mirror and popped out mirror and used decorative mirror as a medallion..it was cute!!!
Google Search: ceiling medallions... or ceiling medallion ideas... choose the "more images" selection... lots to choose from... click the picture and choose "visit".... everything from plastic/foam (available at most home improvement stores) to stenciled or painted.... Pinterest.com will have ideas too.
Since you don't wnat to reinstall the fan, You can buy a 2-piece medallion, or carefully cut a foam one and then caulk.

I would recommend clogs and swings. Reminds me of the sound of music but in mobile form. Get mini wooden clogs and use a heavy chain to hang them from the every other blade. On the other alternating blade have one swing per blade so each blade would have two heavy chains connected to the board of your choosing. You could stick with an industrial theme and switch out the wood for sheet metal.
