This little outdoor table was made for my back yard using an old hydro spool. Reduce, reuse and Recycle!
A nice touch to the back yard
I needed a table! Something smaller just for drinks and snacks outside. What to do on a budget?? I sourced out an old hydro spool.
  1. I bought this spool on a buy and sell site for $20.00. A steal since most outdoor furniture tables cost an arm and a leg.
  2. I looked over the table for cracks and any splits. I added some wood glue into the areas to secure it.
  3. Using a palm sander, I did a once over with a 120 grit paper. I made sure to go around the rim of the table since I didn't want any clothing or legs to get slivers.

I like to keep the original stamping on it for a little bit of patina.
  1. I wiped the whole sanded spool with a wet rag and cleaned off all of the dust and dirt.
  2. After the spool dried, I started to stain the wood with a dark walnut. Of course the stain color is up to you.
  3. Once the first coat of stain was dry, I made sure to go around and touch up with a light second coat of stain ensuring to get into the knots and cracks with a small tip paint brush.
  4. Once the stain was completely dry, at least a day, I wiped the spool down with a damp cloth. I did this because this spool was in the garage where the door is often open to outside. (Dust etc)

Clear coat
  1. After wiping the spool down and once dried, I applied a clear satin varathane to the spool. Let dry 12-24 hrs depending on temperature and humitdity.

Makes me want to put my drink down!
Done! I will make sure to cover or bring into the garage in the winter. I don't want the wood to rot.
