I have wood paneling in my entryway, I don't want to take it down!

But in some places it is badly scratched, is there anything I can do to improve the appearance, it is a light mahogany.

Maybe try using Murphy's oil soap on it to revive it.

There are pens that look like magic markers especially made for this which you can buy at Home Depot/Walmart, etc. in a set of 3 for around $10. However, it has been my experience that you do not need the darkest one that LOOKS like mahogany, so test a small area before you swipe the whole line, or you might wind up with a dark line you don't want. And wear gloves -- the stuff gets on your fingers and doesn't come off easily.

There are color sticks with a waxy substance that can fill in the scratch marks. If you want to keep the color but freshen it up, clean it well to remove dirt and oils and restain over the scratches. There is a stain cleaner oil mixture that will is usually put on wood found in the cleaning products section of most stores.

We sanded and polyed our cedar wall in a hall bathroom and paid professionals to do our much larger den. The palm sander results and resealing made the 1973 cedar walls and roof look new.

It looks great, I might consider this since my entry way is not a very big area.
