I just moved and the screened porch is very dated, any ideas?

Sometimes replacing the screen and trim would work to spruce it up. Paint can cover many flaws and canvas, sailcloth or bedsheet curtains can make a difference. Changing the lighting could help also.

Perhaps you might wish to consider the screen tight system?

We had ours installed in 2015 -with remodel and addition- to our surprise it’s a wonderful system.

It consists of the regular fiberglass mesh screening stuffed into an edge frame sealed with rope like stretchy spline and has a plastic snaps on Tupperware type sealing strip to cover your raw edge.

We just repaired a huge panel after a dog excitement accident. It was pretty easy to work with. We just bought replacement screen + tub of the spline and a hand spline tool and the job was completed without much effort. I would say its diy friendly....at least the repair was. It was far easier than a more old-school staple screen and cover with it with wood —system that we had a prior residence.

If the screening is on the front of the house, I would remove it and try bulking out the posts that support the roof of the porch with perhaps a Craftsman style -- if that would look right for your home -- you know, the posts that are tapered as they go up -- or some other style. Repaint the trim, and as the respondent above said, try "curtains" at the inside corners in a cheerful color that accents the house -- then paint your front door the same color!

Paint the floor and ceiling complimentary colors to your house color. Trim with white. Use outdoor fabric for pillows, curtains etc. Have fun with color!

Just had a screened in porch built. I used polyester shower curtains, gray with white print with shower curtain hangers and 6 ft inexpensive metal rods. A total of 12 shower curtains that I bought online for less than $5.00 each. Have had many compliments.
