I usually empty the water in the bowl by pouring in a bucket of water, add some bleach gel toilet bowl cleaner, swish it around with the brush, and let the remaining water and cleaner sit for several hours. It usually works.
I recently used pumice sticks on both of our toilets, our water leaves terrible rings. Keep the pumice wet at all times, scrub the marks with the pumice. I was very, very happy at how great ti worked. I found them at WalMart.
If you keep it wet at all times, it shouldn't. Try it on a small spot that's not noticeable first. Mine is fine, and we also used the pumice sticks when I worked for my family's commercial cleaning business. Don't use it on the outside of the toilet, tank, or seat though!
Add 2 cups of white vinegar and let it soak over night or all day while everyone is away from the house. Then it should scrub out with a toilet brush. If it doesn't all come out, repeat the process again. I just did mine twice and got it all out
I took your advice and used a whole bottle of White Vinegar. It removed some, but I would need to get more. It may be due to the fact that it was out of date. I will try the Coke and let you know. It's cheaper than White Vinegar
Joan, thank you. I tried White Vinegar and it didn't seem to work. I believe it may be due to the fact that the due date of effectiveness had passed. Coke is cheaper than White Vinegar. I will give it a try and let you know

Try Pumie it is pumice stone on a stick. And it isn't like the pumice stone you used on your feet. It is much softer.

A can of Coke or Pepsi and let it soak. Then brush and flush.
