The room is 13x18, with angled ceilings. I have a 15in rod to lower ceiling fan from the roof.
Your fan may be out of balance. Check this website for balancing steps to take: delmarfans.com - there are also numerous youtube videos. Put some wd40 or smear a little petroleum jelly or Olive oil around the rotating shaft - that might help too. If you have the manual, that might have some recommendations as well.
If the housing for the motor is exposed, then maybe it could use a good cleaning. If the vents are gunked up with dust and lint, then the motor could be working too hard and therefore is 'making noise'.

It sounds like the fan is off balance. You can adjust the fan blades to quiet it down. If you don't have the manual that came with the fan, you can go on YouTube.com and enter the name and model number in the search bar. You will be given a tutorial on balancing your fan.
