I just got a retractable awing this year. It has helped a lot. The less expensive ones are from Sunsetter. They are only 11 1/2 ft wide, but come in widths to 17-18 ft long.

I was just on Northern tractor and tool website, they have awesome fans, both ceiling and ground level, that are fairly inexpensive, that I’m getting to put on one end of my patio. My ceiling fan works great on the other end of mine. Good Luck!

Another option would be Shade sails as they offer a nice shade element and come in different shapeS, sizes and colors. They’re also portable and removable (important here in hurricane country) as well. Pergolas are beautiful and if you have the space and budget you can hardly go wrong.

We already have 2 shade sails, 3 umbrellas and a fan. We wanted something more permanent.
