A Catch-All Drop Zone Went From Chaotic to Calm in Just a Few Hours

My client is a busy young mom of two little ones and works part-time as a labor and delivery nurse. With such a busy life, she felt completely overwhelmed by the disorganization and clutter in her kitchen and asked me to help her create a calm, organized space that suited her family's needs.
These kitchen drawers were a catch all for kid toys, craft supplies, kids art, mail, and more, while the table served double duty for crafting and eating.
After deciding on the primary function of this space, we began emptying the drawers one by one, then sorting each and every item into one of four categories: Keep, Donate, Trash, Return.

The return bin is for items that belong in another room.
We used containers the homeowner already had to contain and corral small items like these kid utensils. When the budget allows, they can be replaced with square bins that allow for better storage.
Plastic baggies came in handy for holding playdo and other art supplies. Again, this busy mom will replace the bags for more permanent storage solutions as time and budget allows.

Until then, this young mom feels so much better about her space and tells me that with a quick clean up routine before bed, they're able to maintain the organization we put in place.
