I have 3 faux "OLD" copper like wall decorations, one is like a strainer, one like a pan, one like a old fashion drinking ladle that I would like to do something to. The handles are black about 20 inches long and the bottom parts are faux copper. Like I said I got them from Home Interiors in the 80's, should I repaint them? anybody out there with any idea of what I'm talking about please respond.

  • I know what you mean and would definitely paint them for an update!

If the faux copper is in good shape, just leave them be and use them. If the copper could use some work, Rustoleum has all colors and even metallics to choose from. Just prep as directed and go for it. If the handles need some help, just get a spray paint made for whatever the handles are made from. If you use thin coats of spray paint you should end up with smooth surfaces and definitely no brush marks. Have fun with them and I am sure there is somewhere in you kitchen that they will make a great addition to your décor.

if it looks good, leave them as is and hang them not straight up and down but at angles on the wall.

I had some brass decorative plates that had been in my family for 40 years. I hated that brass look. I painted them aqua and then rubbed dark wax on them and then buffed it off just leaving it in the crevices. I also rubbed dark paint just around the edges to give more dimension. Now the plates are up on the wall and I love them and get compliments on them. Hope my little story encourages you to go for it.
