The best replacement for the bifold closet door next to front door?

The coat closet opens right next to my front door. Currently there is a bi-fold door that opens into the entry and, when open, is in the way of the front door.
The current closet door needs to either have the track/ mechanism fixed or be replaced with something else. Suggestions?
I'm going to be putting down new flooring so removal won't create a new project and might make installing flooring easier with the track removed.

    Do a sliding “barn” door

I had thought of this and got excited until closer inspection reminded me the only light in the entry is right where it would slide. Without that light it's very dark. To move the light to the other side wall causes three light it would cast to be blocked by the front door.

But thank you! You have a great sense of style.

I have a sliding pocket door and I love it. It slides into the wall on it’s own track. Instillation may cost a bit more but it saves the space in the room that a door takes up.

How deep a pocket in the wall does it need? A contractor should have that info and be able to tell me what the cost would be and if there would be a problem with the furnace closet backing up right next to this closet.

      Thank you

Do you use it for coats? Buy an opaque glass door and have a small light on inside. Iron gate for a wine cellar. Build it out with drawers, baskets, shelves and then no door if you don't hang coats.

If possible, a pocket door would work nicely. Too bad the builder did not do that originally for you.

I thought the same thing about the builder and the more practical pocket door. Great minds.

I will have to see what the cost would be and if there would be a problem with the furnace closet backing up right next to this closet.
