First you need to figure out where the water is coming from. Is it seeping up from the ground? Is your cottage down hill from water runoff (from the side/horizontal)? Once you know where it is coming from (usually runoff) you can make a plan.
If it is seeping up from the ground (high ground water), you will probably need more professional type help (and most likely a good sump pump).
If coming from horizontally, then you can look at waterproofing your foundation exterior (it is a brush on product) and adding a nice french drain (they are amazing).
