The idea of Trex is that it is easy maintenance and not having to paint. Have your thought about contacting the company with the 800 number and asking them? If no response, do a test piece first.
Trex is a plastic like product. You could get paint to initially adhere to it but I don't think it would last very long before it started peeling off.
