Maryann you can use Command strips, they have them for a variety of weights and sizes.

Command strips are a great way to do this without damaging the wall. Make sure you have the right strength for the picture.

I had a bad experience with them after hanging a decorative plate in a wooden frame. I was sure I had the right amount of grip on the top and bottom, down it came only to shatter all over the floor.

Oh no! That's what I'm afraid of! I know they say they come off clean, but do the Command strips pull off the dry wall paper? I'm thinking the best way is to get one of those stud finders and try to nail into the 2x4's. Thanks for your post.

I Use them all over my house. Never had a problem. If its something extremely heavy you can purchase drywall screws with achors

I use the command strips all over my house on the drywall and never have any problem but if you have something that's really heavy that you want to put up you can buy drywall screws with anchors and it will give you a description of how to do it and it will hold something heavy like a shelf or something

Thanks! I think my problem will be locating the studs behind the drywall to get the screws in the right places.

The command strips come off the wall just fine as far as finding the studs if you use drywall anchors you don't need to worry about studs you can place it anywhere you want to

If I want something to go in a certain spot, but i'm not sure if there is a stud, I first insert the screw. If I hit a stud, great! If not, I back out the screw and insert a drywall anchor strong enough to hang my shelf or photo. Then reinsert the screw into the anchor.
