Ideas for Back Yard?

We have a 1950s property, and we've "just" added a back stone patio (in fact, it's still under construction so don't mind the debris). We built the stone patio with intent to add a pergola over it. The pergola will have a clear roof, screen curtain and be used as a sitting area. We also have an open deck. We love the deck and use it a lot - but in the summer, flying insects can be a problem.

Our issue is we don't really know what to do with the space between the new stone patio and the deck. We are open to more stonework, plantings or other ideas. Looking for inspiration.
View from west side of stone patio looking across to rear deck.
View facing the rear of the house, deck to the east and patio to the west. The area under the two kitchen windows is our dilemma.
Here is a slightly closer angle. We are located in Connecticut (so cold and snowy in the winter) and enjoy watching our bird feeders from the kitchen window. Ideally anything below the feeders could survive a multitude of dropped seed.

you know, a HOT TUB would be a nice addition.

Maybe a cute water feature like a fountain or a little pond if you're up for that work in the winter. Then you could do some plantings around it with wildflowers that will reseed and also attract butterflies, hummingbirds, etc.

I would use it for plantings, you could turn it into a nice addition with some greenery and colorful flowers. If you want something that is easy to clean because of the bird seed, perhaps use gravel or stones or even pavers and go with arrangements of potted plants that are colorful. If you want to use pavers, leave open areas to plant perennials that you like.

Depends on how much space you are talking about and if they are the same height or not. I say this because it can easily be an extention one to the other. More room for you and guest. If deck is up high then you would need steps and if they are not in the direction facing patio then you will either need a path built to connect the two which may look OK or not can't say cause I can't see due to no photos. I would it not invite more bugs by having plants or water features.

Update, I just was able to see pictures!!! Wow gorgeous you should have continued it especially since the steps would reach it in the proper direction. I love it and then you and or your guest can have separate areas to sit and enjoy backyard. May I say that your stone patio is just jaw dropping beautiful. So happy for you and I love 50 ranches especially if they have not been updated. So you are being coveted by me a sin I know but you have a great home and you just made it perfect. My only advice is to make sure that you can reach any underground pipes without destruction of patio if you connect the two because I see the hose there and what looks like a vent for maybe a crawl space. Check with your county or township to see what is required. Better yet if not original owners family member then get house Plan from county. That should show you where ever thing goes out to street. And if you happen to live in an area with a septic tank take that into consideration. OK then I think that's all from me. I'll just droll over you yard now. That doesn't mean that if you do have pipes you can't connect the two with a path. OK I can't look anymore or won't stop writing.

I would put a walkway between the two - and fill the area with plantings.

I would continue with the stone patio to the deck only at ground level.

Agree with everyone who has said to continue with the same stonework. It is beautiful, and nothing else will be a low maintenance and look attractive four seasons of the year. Connect it with the deck, and enlarge the access from the patio to the deck with wider steps, integrating the two areas of the yard.

I am wondering why you went for such a small surround/only partway out, immediately bordering the door? Without any guard, it could be somewhat of hazard for someone stepping off and falling.
