  • Hey Penn, maybe throw some mulch or bark nuggets out there just to keep the dust down. It will break down by next spring when you can plant some grass seed. Too hot to do it now, you'll never be able to keep the seeds moist enough to sprout in this heat. Good luck!

Not sure if this is a question, but if it is and you want a green yard, if you do not have good dirt (if you have sand or rock or caliche (something that looks like chunks of drywall)) you will need to bring in a good mixturure of 1/2 dirt and 1/2 compost, enough for it to be at least 10 inches deep and be sure you have a sprinkler system. If you don't want to do all that, you can make planters and fill with good dirt.

Ooops didn't finish my post. In planters plant desert plants and trees and have a drip system installed. With pavers, you can make meandering walkways all around the planters or just a walkway from one area of the yard to another. Then the rest of the yard/dirt fill with rock of your choice. Smaller rock is easier to walk on.

If it is hard for you to grow grass and you want a green lawn you can install turf.

  • When I purchased my current house the backyard was a mess. I struggled through the first year, but I couldn't stand all the dirt and dust - and having it blown or tracked into my house. My climate is similar, 100 days over 100°. Look into Xeriscaping. There are options no matter what part of the country one might live in. Or, bite the bullet and install one of the faux grass options that are so popular.
