How would you repair a bathroom ceiling

Its probably because you are getting it too steamy in there. I have done two things. I have scraped off the loose paint, used sheet rock mud to repair and then prime and paint. That is in a rental property and has lasted for years. The other thing I have done is used the tongue in groove bead board..finished however you like..and put it on the ceiling. My preference was the bead board. I love it! Good luck, Rhonda!

Scrape off any loose paint. Sand to smooth out. Prime with Kilz primer. Use a bathroom paint.

As usual you will be warned that the peeling paint is probably evidence of water behind the paint from some sort of leak and possibly from a different area of your roof. My neighbor discovered that she had " ice dams" from her gutters this winter after the snow melted, and the water soaked its way down enough to show on her walls.

If there is anything suspicious above or next to or behind that area you need to know if a leak needs fixing.

If/ when it is just the paint - you scrape, spackle, and prime , and repaint. I had similar : leaky roof ( finally repaired) and a large " water filled " bubble " of paint that had lifted off the wall. It was about 3 feet long and more than 12" wide at the bottom of the " bubble". It was high up - a partially cathedral ceiling about 10'. and very tricky to position an 8' ladder half in the tub and half out of the tub in order to climb onto the toilet seat and onto the ladder with the scraper in order to start scraping. What a mess. We have a second bathroom thank god.

When you are confident that there is no leak; make plans as to how to manage your bathroom needs and contain the mess somehow.
