Leaves look like it could be a suculent variety, and the flower closes up in the evening to reopen the next day. I think it grows as a ground cover.

This is growing at a friend's home and neither of us know what it's called. We are in New York.
We call it a Rose of Sharon down here in the south, but others are calling it a hibiscus? I know they are in the same family, but how do we know the difference?
