The prime causes of basement dampness are:

    • Condensation
    • Humidity
    • Leaky Pipes
    • Wall Cracks

    Pooling Water at the Foundation

    • Get rid of the smell by mixing 1/8 cup white vinegar and 1 gallon warm water. Mix solution and apply with a rag or place in spray bottle to apply. This mix also works to remove musty odors from clothing.

I have had moderate success using charcoal briquettes to absorb dampness and neutralize odors.

Make sure the briquettes are not the kind treated with lighter fluid for easily starting a barbeque fire.

Dehumidifier, vent window fan, Biocide Systems Room Shocker you can get from Home Depot, Lowes or Walmart. Then seal the concrete floor, and paint the wall with Drylok to keep dampness out. A fan really dries it out quick and you can use one in the vent window to exhaust fumes out.

Do you have a dehumidifier? That helps cut down on the "basement" smell. Spraying regularly with Lysol also helps cut odors.
