What can I do?

I had this same problem when I loved into my home. It was a tree out front. The tree was actually keeping the grass from growing around it. More on one side than the other. I had a tree service come and tell me what was wrong. I ended up having to have the tree removed. I have several trees on my property so one less didn't matter. I am a tree person. Especially the mature ones in my area. Maybe call your locally owned tree service and get them to look at it.

Try first to have the tree prunes to allow more sunlight in and then rent a tiller to turn that dirt over then proceed with the proper seeding and fertilizer

If you have someone to help you, I would suggest putting paver's in, so you would have a solid walkway. You need to have sand to make the paver's stable. You can make your own design or just go with a straight pathway to your ramp. You may even want to incorporate cottage stone as stairs.

I am a big believer in pea Gravel and interesting rocks. Take a garden hose lay it out in a pattern you like remove sod where grass doesn't grow and fill with pea gravel and add large or small rocks and other yard ornaments. I hate the idea of cutting a tree. Now for your walk you can have forms laid and concrete poured then throw more small gravel on it so it will not be slick when wet but still harder then a gravel alone walk way.

Why did you put in a ramp? Do you use a cane or walker, or do you use a wheelchair? This is important information for us to know in order to help you.

If you use a cane or walker, a paver walkway would do fine. If, however, you use a wheelchair, you need a smooth walkway. Gravels are useless with a wheelchair, and even a paver walkway may be too rough. Wheelchairs are difficult to move over ruts, bumps and even thresholds. For best, long term usage I recommend you have someone pour a concrete walkway. Whatever you decide on, based on your needs, no one here can tell you what a project will cost or put you in touch with workers.

If you cannot afford the project, look in your phone book for your county social services department. Give them a call and explain your dilemma. They may know of a service organization that can help. I had a friend with multiple sclerosis and such an organization put in a ramp from her driveway to her porch without cost to her. The ramp was built for my Mom, she passed away right after it was built and I decided to keep it. Thank you so much for the ideas.

for your walkway, either wooden or cement block will work. with the bare yard, just before the next rain, spread high traffic grass seed that has rye crass mixed n.. I did both at my last home. The value increase more and convenience made it worth it. Also, I painted the cement with a grout color, then used a stencil brick pattern. Even neighbors I did not know stopped by to ask questions. It started a fad in the neighborhood.
