Decorating With Vintage Handkerchiefs

You can find vintage handkerchiefs at just about any antique store. I found several and decided to show you how I use them with my farmhouse decor.
This first way was to purchase inexpensive tension rods and just fold the handkerchiefs over the rod to look like a valance for the front porch windows. So they wouldn't blow away, I used double sided tape to keep them together at the bottoms. You can always tack them together with a needle and thread or sew a rod pocket at the top.
It definitely gives a sweet vintage look to the windows and I can easily remove them for washing. These are hung outside on the front porch. I love how it gives the porch some needed summer color and has a fun farmhouse look.
If you don't want to cover the windows or use them like a valance, simply tie a handkerchief around an old pitcher with flowers. I had this lavender hanging from the post and with the color in the handkerchief is was a perfect blend.
This is the view from the desk in the living room. The valance is so cute and I love seeing it wave in the wind. If you'd like to see more ideas for using vintage handkerchiefs, check out the blog post. The link will take you right to it.
