Do you want to take the bricks in the picture out?

Is there another layer of brick behind this one? If so, it shouldn’t be to hard to remove that brick layer. If it was me, I’d be grabbing a hammer and chisel.

If you do not use the fireplace you can remove them. But remember if you do use the fireplace it would be a fire hazard to remove the bricks. You can chisel between them on the mortar and the bricks should start to come out. Then you will most likely have to put up sheetrock where you remove the bricks.

Hi Linda, Removing this is a big job (and it may be loadbearing). At least have it inspected before you start whacking away at it and end up with a sagging roof line. Or worse...

Instead of removing the, why not play them up as a feature? You could repaint them to look like aged bricks in colours that blend with your decor. There are lots of tutorials on how to do this on Pinterest and it would, I think look great!

I agree with Jenn Kelly. Whitewash them white or cream ... or brick color. Aging them is not as difficult as removing them. Remember ... got lemons? Make lemonade! :)
