I've been fighting deer for years. This year has been the worst. They've eaten everything down to stalks.

When living up north I had the same problem. I made a mixture of cayenne pepper, water, and olive oil to keep the pepper suspended. Spray it on the plants. (just remember to wash vegetables really well before eating.) Planting marigolds also helped. For some reason deer and rabbits don't like them. Nothing short of a fence kept them out completely, but these seemed to help my problem quite a bit.

Buy Liquid Fence. It’s available at Tractor Supply or Home Depot. I buy the concentrate and mix in a large spray container. It works the best of anything we’ve tried. The downside is you have to spray after running irrigation system Or rain. It smells horrible to humans for about an hour but evidently the smell for deer lasts longer. It will not harm your plants or shrubs

I have deer wandering through my yard all the time I purchased deer resistant plants like peonies, they did eat the buds off my rose bush though.

I feel your pain. Even though we live in the city, we seem to have the local salad bar any time of the day. I had beautiful hostas and hydrangeas. Had is the key word. I'm ready to give up and put in deer resistant bushes, although I don't think it will help.

Try Plant Skyd (pronounced skid), a spray-on deer retardant, safe on or around food products. It's available at most garden supply stores.

I use red cayenne pepper flakes. .sprinkle on plants and you got to do it after rain . they haven't touched them in a couple weeks. .I also have a BB gun .as long as we had a dog deer never came around our yard . our dog passed last year .the deer have been bad . They pay no attention to the cat .they snort and stomp their feet to run the cat off so they can eat .Good luck hope you find a way .

Thank you. Sorry for your loss. I'm ready to try anything at this point. Even though we live in the city, the deer seem to feel we are the local salad bar. Nothing seems to scare them away. They look at me like I'm the intruder.

  • Deer turn their noses up at fragrant plants with strong scents. Sages, ornamental salvias, and lavender, daffodils, garlic, annual vinca, marigolds, coneflowers

Use a vegetable peeler on the bar of Irish Spring soap and scatter shavings around plants and bushes. There's a product called Bobbex that works really well if you have something you want to protect though!

I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating
