I’m a shade gardener. Under my 3 pines I grow hosta, heuchera, pulmonaria, astilbe,Japanese fern, columbine. In shade you grow for foliage - flowers bloom for a short time and are often insignificant.

It's work growing under pines , I used colorful pots. Your garden center, internet will tell you what plants r good for afternoon Sun. You can put mulch down , leave a spot for a small chair or bench. Sit under the tree you admire with the colored pots with plants. Listen to the birds, look at your canvas and breathe. The reason I garden is to relax. Enjoy

If the pines have been there a long time and no one ever cleaned up needles underneath, the soil may not host anything else. You can plant flowers in containers and add some "art" to brighten it up under the trees.

Try azaleas. Here in the South, they do well in the acidic soil and partial shade of the pines. "Encore azaleas" bloom more than once.

If things are growing there try setting some containers in a grouping under the tree. Add a bench and it's peaceful and beautiful!

Our neighbor had a similar problem. She buried pots up to neck in soil under tree. Then put plants in the pots and kept them watered and fertilized as needed. Her display under the tree was a show stopper.
