I just use a paper towel soaked in Goo Gone, a citrus oil product. Lay the paper towel over the area where you peeled off the label for a few minutes. You may have to rub over it a little. Then, I wash the glass with dish soap and water to remove the oily residue. Usually comes out clean as a whistle! I'm guilty of cleaning labels off of candle jars for reuse. So I do this process often.

l remove label glue with a dab of margarine - rub with a paper towel and let sit for ~15 minutes then rub with green scrubby & hot water. Works every time. The oils of the margarine breaks down the glue and the scrubby & hot water removes margarine ;)

Use cooking oil, olive, canola, any ... type or price doesn't matter. The oil breaks down the glue with no chemical smell. Smooth it in and let it sit awhile. Then rub off with a paper towel. MAy need to repeat if really sticky stuff. if you have oil getting old, save a bit in a squeeze bottle and keep under the sink ... ready to use as needed.
