I have heard about adding trim to old kitchen cabinets and then painting them but I know nothing about this. What is the best way to do this? Here is a picture of the cabinets.

I also know several people that used the Rustoleum Cabinet kits and were very happy with the results. My aunt did hers about 4 years ago, and they still look great! Lori, your cabinets look awesome! You can add molding and trim to cabinets with wood glue and small finish nails, some are already mitered to in case you don't want to cut it yourself.

Lori's are beautiful but I am assuming only that she had those great cabinets to start with and just updated them where you have a whole different base to start with. They look like plywood from maybe the sixties ( My dad built same for mom in the sixties). This is what I would do if mine. First of all clean the heck out of them or even take them off and sand them since they are flat, then I would trim them like Shaker cabinets, no mitreing needed just careful measuring and cutting (look up on line) and then I'd paint them. The thing about painting is you can easily fix up little mistakes with spackle, like nail dents etc, but you could glue them on instead and and prime and paint. This will not cost very much and then you have money for DROP DEAD GORGEOUS HANDLES. :) Just anothher idea.

Aw well thanks Lori!! I appreciate it!!

  • You can also have cabinets re-faced, with new wood drawer fronts, veneer over the side and new doors. We have great heavy plywood cabinets, very sturdy, just ugly. Great upgrade, and we did our own knobs/handles. Ours have lasted for almost 10 years and still look great! Took 2 days and little down time. Here's ours, looked similar to your before, we used maple with a nice cherry finish-

  • And that pink stove in the wall might be really valuable!
