After Hurricane Harvey we had to take down a 55' Eucalyptus tree. Had it cut down leaving a 2.5' diameter stump. Bought a pine 3' table top and attached it to the top of the stump with 3" deck screws. I put some potted plants on the table top. But now there are sprouts coming out and up around the top from the stump. Cut down those on what I call the front side and left the ones in the back as a back drop. Anyone want a bunch of cuttings to root are welcome. Ha! They will root in water. Make sure you stump top surface is level. I used a couple of shims in one area to level the table top and drove a couple of screws thru them when fastening the table top.

  • Hi Nancy - We built a bee skep (house) with a tree stump. It's so cute and helps to keep the helper bees in our yard. Hope it helps with inspiration. Good luck! Hugs, Holly

That was great! But not a stump. It was a log. I have a few of those here where I live in Maine. We use them as Bee Warming Huts.

I have an actual stump in the ground.

A section of our woods was infested with a fungal disease, so we cleared it, cut up the trunks for firewood, pulled the stumps, and built a stump wall. It is just finished, so it looks pretty raw, but in the fall I will plant ferns on it, and as the seed heads of Irish poppy, foxglove, and columbine mature, I throw the seeds up there. We shall see what grows! I have also planted trumpet vines and wisteria, but they are too small to show up in the picture.

Cut the tree at 4.5 to 5 ft sticking out of the ground. Cut or fabricate a 12 ft diameter surface for a wonderful family or friend gathering

    party.
