    Look for dwarf varieties.

  • Shrubs require maintenance no matter what variety. Just set yourself a schedule to trim them on a regular basis. If garden work is not your thing, hire a mow and blow type of gardener, they are a dime a dozen and just pay extra every 3 months to keep the shrubs in check.

We just put in globe arborvities that are expected to grow up to 5' wide and 4' high. You can always prune your shrubs to keep them to the size you want. We also have spreading or creeping yews and pines. Check the label before purchasing to be sure it will not outgrow your area.

    Hi Rrf

I agree with above poster Bonnie -to suggest dwarf varieties.

Do you wish to consider if Evergreen type holly bushes or flowering shrubs?

Your planting zone - climate needs to be considered before actual plants shoukd be suggested.

As to the specific low growing shrub suggestions I would suggest a personal consultation with your planting zone and soil in mind.

A great resource that I have used and highly recommend .....is your local Cooperative extension. These offices are manned by a wonderful team of volunteer master gardeners that know your local situation quite well. There's also email ( submit a photo) Q&A resources that have helped my concerns and questions many times. Consider googling up your local extensions office.

YOU NEED TO CONTINUE TO PRUNE YOUR SHRUBS AND YOU CAN REMOVE ABOUT 1/3 AT A TIME. SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE THE PLANT.

Some of the ornamental grasses only grow to a certain height... and if you read the tags.. it should give the maximum height a plant will grow... also... talk with a LOCAL nursery... they will have good suggestions for you too.

Miniature Barberry, mini lilac. Depends on max size you want and your growing zone and condition of soil, amount of sun, water, slope, etc.

    Hello,

Plants will always continue to grow. If you want them to be smaller then maybe choose different types of low growing ones.
