I need additional cupboard space in my kitchen.

I have an 8 foot blank wall on one side where I would like to put a cupboard. I rent so it has to be freestanding. I would like storage underneath with a counter top for my microwave and other small appliances. It needs to be inexpensive and quickly put together. Any suggestions? Photos can be provided.

Hi there, you can always check out Ikea or one of your local home improvement stores. They will have cabinets and countertops you can assemble and then remove when you leave. There's always the thrifting option, you're local salvage depot will probably have lots of furniture or cabinet options, that would be the least expensive and you could always miss and match them together and then paint them for a more cohesive look.

Do you have a local Big Lots? They have some pieces like this made exactly for the kitchen. I would also say to check out Ikea for shelving units that you can piece together and make into exactly what you want.

If you have a Restore in your area, you could see if they have kitchen cupboards. Put castors, only really good ones, on the bottom of it so that you can move it around. You can build a hutch on top and finish it to match the décor of the kitchen. You could check places like Salvation Army for what they have that you can use garage sales, etc. may also have things you could use. I hope this helps you find what you need!

Look in local thrift stores furniture section. Don’t overlook bookcase type backboards. Some from waterbeds work well and dont take up much room. Be sure to attach them to the wall with L brackets or shore them up on the bottom so they are free standing. Especially when you set microwaves and items to use a lot, you have to make them stable. Have fun with it!

The Restore has hit or miss items that include cupboards and storage items that people donate.

Yup, (Yup is a Maine-ism for Yes!), I'm about to leave on a massive yard sale marathon. Perfect weather for it and lots of them in my small Maine town. I will ask around while I shop for treasures. S ometimes, someone will have just what you need or knows someone that does. Thanks for your help!
