I have seen some Garden Signs that made me smile, some that made me laugh, and some that made me snort, lol!

Since I actually have some flowers growing out amongst the weeds and it's too hot to be outside this was a good time to make a sign.
I went out to the garage to look for a scrap piece of wood in the size I wanted. But if you don't have scraps you can buy the wood at places like Home Depot and they will cut it the size you want. Or purchase at Walmart in the crafting section or even online at Amazon.
I have a Cricut machine so for me this was the easiest way to do it.
I found the saying by searching funny garden signs online and thought this quote was cute. I chose my fonts and images and put them together in Cricut Design Space and it cut out my stencil.

Very easily you could simply hand paint this sign instead.
So I had my wood, my stencil, some paints a brush and some sponges.
The piece of wood can be stained or painted or left plain. Whatever works for you.
I decided to paint it solid brown and then dry brush white over it. Here it is brown.
And here I am dry brushing.
I put a little white paint on a paper plate and swished it around on the plate till there was barely any paint on the brush. Then brushed across the brown till it looked like I wanted adding more when I wanted more.
I like the weathered wood look alot.

After applying the stencil sticker I used the cosmetic sponge to dab paint on in an up and down motion. It's better to do a couple thin coats then a thick one.

After removing the stencil I decided I wanted to outline what I'd painted so I used a black paint pen. If you aren't using a stencil you could just free hand your words and design using some of these pens.
After it's done I spray with clear spray paint to seal the paint and the wood.
It will survive all summer and longer. When I put it back out next year I'll give it another coat of clear spray paint.
Decide if you're hanging or staking your sign. I just needed to drill 2 holes and used a short bit of wire I had to hang mine.
I love it hanging on the headboard in front of a group of flowers!
Show me YOUR garden signs!

Most Hometalkers are DIY'ers and have scrap wood, paints, brushes so the project doesn't need to cost you anything but I did list below the things you'd need if you're just starting out.

If I could actually find someone to do the weeding then life would be great. It's a bonus if they look good bending over, LOL!

Cute and colorful. I’m actually interested in how you cut the stencil. I have a Cricut and want to try cutting stencils? Any special tricks I need to know?

I bought a sign with this saying! My next project is to make my own signs so you've given me some ideas. I need to buy a paint pen and I think I'm ready to go. Is that an old headboard from a bed that your sign is hanging on? Looks really cute.
