The front bay window had blinds...i just hate blinds...i would like curtains but also want light to come in during the day but privacy at night..now the kicker...i dont want to spend an arm and leg doing it.

Would like something just country style, nothing retro and more into beige/browns & greens

You want lined draperies with black out panels on a separate rod (behind), for privacy. Your window sizes will determine if you need to make them or can find ready made at reasonable prices.

    try roman shades

  • You do not have to spend an arm and a leg. I didn't. I am a fan of double rods for this very reason. Sheers underneath and drapes on top. I found decent double rods at Big Lots one time too!

In one room I found washable linen curtain panels on sale at Target for $20 per panel. I found the sheers, again at Big Lots for $5 per panel.

Just shop around, Big Lots, Ross, Marshall's, Steinmart, Home Goods, T J Maxx are great places to start. Then move up to Target, Walmart, Bed Bath and chain department stores.

Ikea has some very nice black out curtains, and you can make a double rod from Electrical conduit.

Have you considered the contact paper that's specifically for Windows? It allows the light to come through, but it obscures the view so nobody can see in. I have it on my front door window as I'm unable to hang anything and it works awesome! And it's SO easy to put on and comes off with no trouble if you want to change it and the best part is you can get it at dollar stores!! There's some beautiful designs!

If you want to go country, what about cafe curtains? You would have a valance at the top and curtains on the bottom just above the middle of the window. It would allow you to see out but still give you privacy. I'm sure you could find cafe curtains at Goodwill or garage sale.

Or, as Cheryl suggested. You could put film on the windows. The only bad thing about that is, if you use something like frosted film, it would let the light in but would not let you see out. Home Depot carries film for the windows in different sizes so I would measure the windows and take a look at the choices at Home Depot. You can also find the film online on Amazon or any number of retailers. Just do a google search for window film.

Hello, looks like you have the sheers already for letting in the light, you can simply just add another rod above each existing ones and hang new ones over, open the darker curtains in daytime.
