Wonder Woman Home Decor Throw Pillows

This was a fun project for a Blogging Movie Challenge. We were challenged to create a craft, recipe or diy project based on the Wonder Woman movie. My house is more of a farmhouse decor so I did not know what I would create for this. I decided to take out the glitzy gold from the real Wonder Woman and use a toned down print and make some fun throw pillows.

This yellow/gold fabric and a drop cloth were my fabric choices.

I like to create envelope pillows so I can remove the insert and wash the outside when needed. I have a detailed tutorial for these on my blog but basically it is one piece of fabric for the front of the pillow and two pieces that overlap to create the back of the pillow.

There is no zipper or closure. Just the overlap. I love them.

After the pieces are cut, but BEFORE it gets sewn together add the design to the front piece.

For the first pillow, I purchased a Wonder Woman design for the Silhouette for .99 and enlarged it to the size I needed for my pillow. This is my screen shot. I cut it out of paper then traced it onto the yellow fabric.

I cut this out with my (affiliate link) pinking shears, pinned and stitched onto the front piece.

When it was all stitched on I added the back pieces to create the pillow "case".

Then I started on the second pillow. This one had the famous Wonder Woman saying, "She needed a hero so that's what she became"

I used my Silhouette machine again and created a vinyl stencil using two different fonts.

I cut this out then placed it onto the pillow front. I had to cut and rearrange the words a little bit.

I added some textile medium to my black acrylic paint then used a stencil brush to paint the letters/words onto the fabric. It turned out great.

Then I stitched the two overlapping back pieces of this "envelope" to the front and I was done.

What do you think? This can be done with any design and any saying to create some very custom throw pillows. I love it and it works great every time I do it. The drop cloth is my favorite throw pillow fabric.
