What paint do I need to use to paint these barstools?

I bought these at a yard sale for $2 a piece. I've been wanting stools for awhile so I couldn't pass these up. I just figured I could redo them. I know how I want to paint them but not sure of the process. What paint do I use? Do I sand? Is there a paint for the metal bar at the bottom? I'd like to paint it a silver. I want to paint them white. And maybe stain the seating part a rustic greyish wood or just do the whole thing white and just put a cute cushions on it. Any suggestions will help. Thanks so much.

if you want a more smoother look, I would sand it. If you don’t mind any scratches or indentions then just paint it. By far, best paint I’ve ever used on any surfaces is Valspar.

Be sure to clean the chairs really really well to remove dirt and any furniture polish before you begin!

Use gel stain on the seat, spindles and back - you do not have to sand it first unless there are lots of scratches. Take off the metal foot rest and use spray paint - Rustoleum for metal is best. Use chalk paint on the rest of the stool and seal with polycrylic.
