You can use any paint at all to paint the back of glass plates. These decoupaged plates have all been painted on the back with a variety of paints. Well these are glass but not plates. The only caution is do not put in d.w. and be careful handwashing. Don't soak! The first pic is of a painted glass bottle. I just put the paint inside and swished it around by turning the bottle. p.s. all the work on glass in decoupage is done on the back, the images are glued on first (facedown) and then the back is painted) I have used a variety of paints.

Mindy, you can buy glass paint (translucent) at JoAnn's or Michaels. You'll need to paint on the backs of the plates if you're planning to eat off the plates. Also, the paint instructions may have you "cure" them in a low temperature oven so the paint stays on and I'd always hand wash them to insure the longevity of the paint.
