Hello Paula, First of all you will need to either add wooden baton to each inside of window or fix brackets to take the glass. You will need to be careful you do not have too wide an area for the glass to span once you have put your plants and pots on it otherwise it will be quite a weight , and if too wide a span will bow and not be safe. I was going to use glass myself, but decided in the end to use timber. The edge can always be decorated to tone in or add mirror/foil or Ribbon or Lace etc. If using Glass you will need to buy (Plate Glass) from Glass shop the size across your window. Otherwise timber the same. Depending on formation of surround you will have to either Screw or Drill, plug and screw the supports in place, and then place shelves on top. Hey Presto! There you have it.

Ah ok, we did this with a board by notching out the frame and sliding in a board to put plants on. I think with glass it would be better to use something to support the glass.

Also call the glass store and ask if they could not only cut a piece to size but also make the edges not sharp.
