How can I makeover this hideous 60’s planter?

We have something like that right inside our side kitchen door. When we moved into the house, it had been filled with rocks and large candle jars had been set in it. You can use artificial plants in it and change them as the seasons change.

Oh, yes, Sally! Friends bought a house in the sixties with one of these planters just inside the front door, sorta' divides entry way from living room! Didn't take her long to put a top on it and treat it like a mantel top. She changes decor there frequently (yes, she still lives there!) and hangs the stockings on the living room side at Christmas! Can't imagine why a builder thought this was a good idea!!

Sally, is this planter inside? Succulents could grow in there. I love the baskets you have now. You could paint the planter white, or cover it with plywood. It’s just a pony wall, so you could get rid of it with a heavy hammer and a tire iron. If there is a column at either end, you can leave that in place. You will have to repair the flooring where it stood. If you keep the planter, you could build or buy some shelving, with or without a back, to fill the space and provide display place. Many decisions to make. Open it up or close it in! What appeals to you? Best wishes ☺️

You can paint it a nice neutral color like gray, and use fake plants in it, maybe with LED candles. Seasonal decor is very possible with this method as well!

I think you should paint it or white wash it, it's awfully close to the wall paint. Maybe on purpose to blend it in,I don't know but yes think of it as a positive not negative thing. That still home is great I would actually add a book case or open shelves to continue the look and have an actual foyer. Depending on its height you might find something premade. I also like the slab of wood and then you can use as you would any flat surface. You can't deny it's there so go with and have fun.

Honestly, it works as a barrier for the entry way, you could put a paneling over it to make it look different, or you could simply do a fancy paint job, make it look like marble or granite or paint it a solid color of your choice, like a bright white, grey, blue or whatever you love for color!

If it were my house, I would do either of 2 things: 1. build open shelving all the way up to the ceiling and place succulents and glass decor in the open shelves 2. build a glass block wall on top. I would probably cover the stones with plywood and paint it a contrasting color if I wanted to go bold or complementary to the wall. That's just me, though.
