Tips for applying contact paper over ogee edge on laminate countertop?

Hi there y'all, icon first time here but hopefully not last as we're finally going to be homeowners! Yay!
Now on to my question, the house we'll be moving into has the same laminate countertops I currently have in my apartment. Which as pictured is a sand colored ogee edge laminate.
The countertops themselves are in great shape and since we'll be keeping to a tight budget, for now I'd just like to update with faux white marble contact paper.
I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with contact paper, if so how difficult would it be to keep the edge bubble free? Would painting them be the better option? I would much rather apply the paper but I'm worried about the edges getting messed up.
Thanks in advance icon

Contact paper is not a long-term solution. It takes little to damage.

As long as you take your time and smooth the vinyl toward the edge you will avoid trapping air. A squeegee for applying vinyl decals will help. Available on Amazon.

I may be the only person on the planet that actually likes laminate countertops. They wear well, easy to clean, not fussy like granite or marble, no grout to deal with like tile. But contact paper is not the best idea. Especially if you cook a lot. Go with the Giani kits and invest in a boatload of jumbo sized cutting boards.

    • You are welcome! Buy a couple foam core or poster boards from the dollar store and practice first. Yes, you can do this!!! Watch the tutorials and practice . . . 🤗

It may be hard to keep the edges down, it also would not be very durable and would easily melt with heat, and cut very easily. You would have to be very careful and it may last a while, but may need to be replaced once in a while until you can save up to have the counter tops changed. It would probably be easier to replace the contact paper if necessary to redo before your budget allows the granite. There are some really nice contact papers out there that you may like. I covered a box that I use to store hubbies meds in before he needs new bottles with one of the granite looking ones and it looks really nice. I chose a lighter grey one, but they had a number of different colors. I bought mine at Walmart, the price isn't bad for how much is on a roll.

I don't think Contact paper is a good solution for countertops. I'd probably just learn to live with the laminate. However, a trick for getting a stubborn air bubble out of Contact paper is to pierce the bubble with a very fine needle, then burnish the bubbled area. The pinhole lets the air out.

I doubt contact paper is going to hold on that edge. Why not paint it white marble using epoxy paint... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAEG5stz-PQ

Use a credit card to apply - it works to smooth edges. Lots of people use contact paper as a temporary solution on counters, it is not a permanent solution though.

WELCOME! I agree with Naomie. It would be hard to adhere contact paper on an ogee edge and it sill would separate. Painting is the cheaper and better option. Prep is the key. Rustoleum, Daich, or Giani countertop paint kits.
