Should I reside our home with Aluminum or Vinyl siding?

The siding on our home is redwood and Cedar with some wood rot. It is a solid stained gray. We were going to have it painted but afraid that it might have to much wood rot. We also have moss growing on the roof and it also is staining the wood where the siding meets the singles and might even have wood rot there. I'm 72 and can't climb ladders any more so would like to hear your comments.

If you have moss on the roof, time to replace the roof. It is a sign of rot. The siding really depends on what will work in your neighborhood.
Also, if you have a fireplace, install a metal roof. (Insurance will decrease.) Some roofing looks like shingles. with the metal roof and the siding, make sure the house is Tyvek wrapped, and you could also install additional insulation on the outside of the house. (the siding goes over that).
vinyl siding is the best way to go
We are firm believers in vinyl siding; we put it on our home in 1969 when it first was on the market and when we sold the home in 1980 it was still as good as new. Never had to do anything to it except wash it with water from a garden hose and a long handled brush for making sure the birds' deposits were all scrubbed off. We bought another home in late 1980 and immediately added on another bedroom, enclosed porch, garage, and large pantry then totally covered everything with vinyl siding. Today it's still nice and bright and all we do is spray it to clean it. People say there is a downside to vinyl siding but after 38 years we cannot find anything wrong with it. Never needs painting, if it gets bumped there are no dents left in it, if it gets scraped by tree branches, kids, etc. there is never any discoloration as the color goes all the way through it, there is no way a scratch can start rusting, and it is so easy to keep clean. For us elderly folks (hubby is 77 & I'm 72) it's the only siding to have.
Vinyl house siding is made from polyvinyl chloride, a product that is stiff, solid as well as withstands damages. The shade goes all the way via each item, so if it scrapes or chips, the damages is practically undetected.
