watered Hi Kathy I'm not sure what is recommended by professional gardners but I split mine constantly all summer long. I've never had a problem yet! They are so darn hearty I've never lost any.

Just keep them watered and they will take root and thrive.

We usually split in spring or fall. use a pointed shovel cut apart. move to new spot and water. they keep on growing and spreading. I live in the Northeast of United States. GOOD LUCK

Just about any time as long as you keep them watered while the roots are getting reestablished.

When they first come up, they are easier to divide and then the leaves look nice for the growing season.

I just moved/divided some. If you cut back the leaves to about 3-4", they are easier to work with and won't look so ratty. If you water well ahead of time, you may even be able to pull the roots apart with your fingers and a small trowel.
