What is the cheapest way to redo your Formica countertops?

I have seen a couple “how to’s” on here, one using a cement and the other using paint. I am so scared I will ruin it. Anyone know the cheapest and easiest way I can update, without buying new counters. Much appreciated!

Give one of these a try. I've never redone countertops, but a friend painted hers and sprinkled flecks on while the surface was wet. It turned out really nice!

Using skim coat concrete is pretty inexpensive and it looks great.
