  • That is what cats do if you let them out. I have 6 and they roam in and out all day long. Mine were rescues and to keep them in was pointless, they know where home, food, litterboxes and safety is. How about building a catio?

    • Great! I hear you, where I live they are no longer creatures of the night. Due to drought and fires, they are out and about around the clock in my neighborhood, along with rattlesnakes.

I bought , The Fun Tunnel, for my cat. She loves it. She walks back and forth, and it rolls all over the yard. It’s 62 inches long by 17” high. They also attach to another tunnel and they also have one that is square, so they can put food, water, and little box in it. Strong mesh, so cat is secure in it. I believe I bought it from Dr Foster online catalog. I have had mine for 4 years and is still in excellent condition.

The only way I can think of, to keep a cat from climbing a fence outside, is to build a cat habitat. There are just so many things that they can get into or things that can hurt them. This way they can go outside and still be safe. I want to build one for my cats.

You could build a cat enclosure. Google catio plans to find a plan to build a catio that suits you.

A friend of ours put a low voltage electric wire near the top of his wooden fence and at the very top. It started out as a plan to keep the neighbors cats and strays out and worked well. Then he added the second wire just below the top to highly discourage his cat from climbing, it worked quite well. Be sure to buy the kind of electric fence for small animals, like rabbits etc. Good luck !

Hi Jan, you can attach roller bars to the top of the fence. Here's a DIY tutorial that will show you how - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUe0r4ZLCCs
